Read José María Arguedas, Deep Rivers (Perú, c. 1930). This is a complex novel made more difficult by the use of words from the Quechua language (though with a glossary) and the fact that many of the main character’s friends are sometimes referred to by their names, sometimes by their nicknames. But it has several interesting sociological dimensions. (Pick one of these rather than trying to cover them all in a single paper.)
Read Jorge Amado, Gabriela, Clove and Cinnamon (Brazil, 1920s). A provincial town is going through major changes. As its economy and social life respond to agricultural expansion and increasing wealth, what constitutes “progress” and “modernity?”

Research some of the recent different crypto-malware ransomware attacks, and write a one page summary of your research addressing the following questions:

2. Why are they so successful?
Does the US have a post-Cold War international strategy? Describe and explain three central US security interests in the post-Cold War era.
