Obesity in College Students

What are some local issues students face and how do they affect their lifestyles?  Consider factors such as food (availability, cost, location), cost (housing, tuition, transportation), time (to a degree, take classes, travel). These ideas are merely that: ideas! You’ll create a topic proposal, choose a topic later. Employ all three types of appeals. Do not rely entirely on logic or emotion when making your argument.  Continue reading

Analyzing a TED Speaker’s Speech

Credit: coreagency.com

Many TED speakers are published researchers, and many of them base their TED talks on their research: before you look for other sources. Choose a TED speaker that  has published on human trafficking  and write a literature  review on it. Use only published, peer-reviewed articles for your references. Statements like “I believe” or “I could not find…” put the focus more on you than on your topic and make you seem less credible. You usually don’t need to talk about yourself unless you have a really good reason e.g. personal experience–used sparingly–or primary research–interviews, surveys, etc. that you have personally written and conducted. Many studies on police brutality have been conducted and a careful review of some of the studies  indicates that there is a strong correlation between  corruption, institutional weakness, procedural abuse and police brutality. These aspects seem to always overlap. Although measures such as pre-employment screening, testing incumbent officers, and offering psychological health support through therapy have been put in place, excessive use of force by police officers continues to be on the rise in some parts of America. The damage done on the reputation of a team that has been entrusted by the government to protect citizens could be irreversible.
