As noted in the past, the media very often distorts the crime picture. Why does the media focus on serious violent offenses, when there are far more instances of property crimes occurring in the United States? What impact does this distortion have on society and policy? Should the media change reporting strategies? Violent crimes, such as rape, often don’t get reported to police. Why do crimes such as rape go unreported to police? What changes could we make in the justice system or in the educational system to encourage the reporting of rape?
Write a one page response paper on one of the above referenced issues. For each of the above topics, it will be helpful if you do an internet search of these issues and read relevant articles.
