Define and introduce the concept of urban agriculture; what is it and what’s been
the process in regards to its development; what is the goal of urban agriculture, if
there is one. (10pts)
Research a specific program in the Chicago-metro region and provide an overview
of the organization, including the target audience that they organization serves, if
there is one. What are the benefits gained from the organization/urban ag
program? Who benefits and how? (10pts)
Fred Kirschenmann also discusses four (4) challenges (elephants in the room, so to
speak) that we face in the coming years in regards to a sustainable food system?
List and discuss these challenges in regards to how urban agriculture might
address these challenges, giving specific real world examples. (24pts – 6 per
challenge)
Considering the various ways discussed throughout the last few learning modules
(10-12) – backyard gardeners/”victory garden movement”, small scale local
farmers, urban/high density, school and community gardens; Is there a particular
form of agriculture or a system that you feel may address the issues that Mr.
Kirschenmann discussed in the videos best and why. What needs to happen, in your
opion to make the food system a sustainable system as described by Kirschenmann.
