Bolin, Frances and Steven Arcella.  Carl Sandburg; Poetry for Young People:New York,

NY: Sterling, 2008.

This book was written by Bolin.  Arcella is responsible for the demonstration of the book.  In this book, the author literally describes the life of Sandburg.  He makes Sandburg his main character.  It is an exceptional book because the author also includes the characters around Sandburg.  His father used to work as a blacksmith helper for thirty five years.  As such Sandburg was exposed to hardships at a tender age (Bolin and Arcella, p34). On several pages of the book, the author cites some of Sandburg’s work.  They also give an insight on what the situation was back then for the renowned author.  According to this book, Sandburg began his endeavors at a very tender age.  He was only a writer of a segment for a daily newspaper.  His troubled childhood had helped in molding him to become a hard worker.  He was truly remarkable in all his doings.  His dedication and determination is what really speared his success.  He received three awards.  Two of the awards were for his explicit writings and poetry.  The third trophy he got for his autobiography on Abraham Lincoln.  At a tender age he watched his family suffer in poverty while the rich flourished in their luxuries.  He had grown up wondering why there was a huge gap between the two social classes.  He also wondered how he could assist in bridging the gap.  The continued determination wheeled him into putting his thoughts in writing.  As the years progressed his works were recognized thus he received several awards.  The book ends on a sad note whereby it states the death of the author.
