Choose an issue that affects your community – your neighborhood, your city , your state , your college campus, or a demographic that you belong to. Then, write an essay detailing what the issue is, where it came from, how it could potentially be addressed or solved, and why it should matter to the reader that this issue be solved.

Some potential examples of community issues include: teen pregnancy, access to healthy food, homelessness, alcohol abuse, litter, cyber bullying, and the minimum wage.
Consider these questions as you write:
• Who benefits from this issue being solved/not solved?
• How long has this issue existed? Is it old or new?
• Where did it originate?
• Why hasn’t it been solved already?
• Who is making a difference in the community to address this issue?
