From the instructor: A Western-based non-governmental organization (NGO – Non-governmental Organization) (e.g., Amnesty International, UNICEF, Doctors without Borders, Green Peace) plans to sponsor a large campaign aimed at increasing the number of women in the workforce of a traditional (gender-conservative) developing country, citing world opinion that women are often treated as “second class citizens” in this country. Although there has been limited impetus or support for this campaign generated by the individuals of the country itself (both male and female), the NGO still plans to implement the campaign. Analyze the potential impact of this plan from the side of the NGO and the individuals in the country, using ethnocentrism as related to the deficit and difference models and culture conflict related to gender socialization (gender roles, gender stereotypes, sex-role ideology). Remember to include some discussion from both the side of the NGO and the individuals within the country, those for and against (remember, ethnocentrism can work both ways!) Side Note: For this essay we are expected to clearly tie in course themes and concepts using our power point notes from class. I have sent them in the attachments below! Also we are not expected to have a work cited page, only to cite the resources in our paper if we have any.
