Objectification_of_Women_EssayPaper instructions:

The Sterin textbook (2014) defines media literacy as “the identification, study and analysis of all the processes involved in creating and consuming media content across all media types and platforms.” While this concept may sound simple, it is not. In today’s digital age, we are constantly inundated with media messages from a variety of sources that are deliberately trying to mold our perceptions.

This writing assignment is designed to develop critical thinking skills and help you become a more savvy media consumer. Here are your instructions (it is important that you do these in order):Go online and find and watch the music video of a current popular song (preferably Top 40 Pop, but it doesn’t matter which one)
Watch the YouTube video at the following link (takes about 5 minutes): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDMo5cIJN3A
Re-watch the music video you chose in step number one. Think about how your perceptions are different after watching the YouTube video on the objectification of women in popular music.
Write a 3-5 page paper discussing the portrayal of women in popular music. Do you think it is a societal problem or not?  Why? How (if at all) did the video on the objectification of women change your perceptions of popular music? Your work should be approximately 50% argument/reaction to the subject matter and 50% research. It is important to cite specific examples and outside sources (3-5) that discuss the topic. While I do not expect you to utilize only scholarly publications (from library databases like EBSCO), I do expect you to find credible sources (i.e. textbooks, major news organizations, non-profit organizations promoting media literacy, etc.). Google Scholar is a good starting point, as it offers full PDF versions for many articles.
